Running Towards Your Goal
Picture this: you've got a dream, a vision. It's like running a marathon, but instead of just miles, it's minutes. 15 minutes... You're pushing forward, one step at a time, towards greatness.
Each 15 minute block is a challenge, but you embrace it. Your heart beats faster, the adrenaline flows through your veins, and you conquer every second like a champion.
Don't let anyone tell you it's easy. It takes determination and sheer willpower. But hey, life is all about those moments that push you to your limits, right?
And that's where the magic happens.
Could you run 1 mile (ish) every 15 minutes for 24 hours?
Sounds easy, right?
But that is about 100 miles in 24 hours.
If you miss the 15 minute start even once - thats you out.
Will you make the distance, will you be the last person standing?
Should we do it?
Should we do it?
Late Summer / Early Autumn 2024
Felton Village - Northumberland
It all begins with an idea.
I like running ultra’s, well as much as anyone actually likes running ultras, but they are always miles away, cost a fortune, require booking hotels, travel and all that crap.
Why are none of them really close to me?
So I thought, can I organise one in the village a bit like a backyard ultra, running a loop, constantly for 24 hours.
The loop is actually 1.19 miles, so you get to run even more miles. (but it is pretty flat)
The format is a tried and tested one:
You get 15 minutes to run each lap.
You must be at the start line when the signal to start the next lap sounds - miss it and you are out.
Don’t finish a lap in time to start the next one - you are out.
You can only run one lap for each lap start signal. (Well you can run more but only one counts)
You run until you have had enough or you don’t make the next lap start.
You run as an individual - no teams
You are self supported, as in there are no pit stops or supplies provided.
You can have people cheering you on and supplying you with water / nourishment as often as you like between laps - but miss that start and you are out.
If you need medical attention for blisters or anything else, and you miss the start of the next lap, guess what……. you are out.
It’s all about pounding the pavements, so no bikes, scooters, cars, motor transport, lifts, taxi’s, buses, helicopters - no help getting you round the laps at all - anything that is decided to be cheating - and you are out.
Whats next?
So at the moment I am gathering interest, to see if there are enough crazy people to give it a go
Cost - I want this to be accessible to as many people as possible, so I want to keep the costs as low as I can
I will have to consider, medical support, insurance, permits, race numbers, timing, marshals, volunteers, do people want medals and / or T-shirts?
Do we have a trophy for the most laps?
Should we keep going until only 1 person is left running?
Should we do it for charity, to support the village or just for fun?
I am not in it for profit, but I also don’t want to be massively out of pocket either
Interested? - Hit the RSVP button and let me know if this rocks your boat, and spread the word….
3AM Thoughts:
Would it be possible to walk the whole event? - in theory I suppose it would, eating and drinking on the move - toilet breaks could be a bit more of a challenge.
Could we make it completely accessible - would we have categories for perhaps manual wheelchairs - self powered, manual wheelchairs pushed, powered wheelchairs?
Would cheat sticks be allowed? (walking poles)
Dogs accompanied? (Perhaps not Bully XL’s that eat children, or dogs that are hyper / nervous - and dog mess clear-up time would be a challenge for the competitor)
Age categories - or do we just beast it out as one?
